 It is expected the first Free Schools will be opening in September 2011

The new Governments Secretary of State for Education has invited interested groups to develop their proposals  to become  Free Schools.  Free schools   are state-funded and to meet the needs of children of all abilities and backgrounds.  Enabling teachers to be creative and improve teaching standards.  These schools will be:

·        Free from local authority control.

·       able to set  their own pay and conditions for staff

·       have freedom from following the National Curriculum

·       Able to alter hours of schooling and term dates.

·        Continue to be accountable via inspections and tests.
